Macarena self taught Punch needle during covid times, and since then never again stoped. It has become her main medium and continue exploring the limits of the details and the texture that this techniques can provide to her artistic expression.

Macarena exploration with non recycle plastics, started from the shame of waste of this material in her daily life. She started collecting a few years back, hoping to find a way to use it again. One day discussing with her textile friend Natasja van Wyk, they came up with the idea of fuse the plastic with different textiles. From there, they build up a body of work that end up an exhibition called “Waste to Wonder” in November 2024 at the Lyre Gallery, in Burrinja Cultural Centre. They achieve to secure a Grant on Arts and Heritage by Yarra Ranges Council to developed this techniques and now it has become one of the main mediums of the artist.

She continue creating with this material, now incorporating it into hand mande jewellery and other art items that are on display at her studio.
