Macarena is an Award winner, Chilean artist who has lived in Australia for the past decade. Her migration experience has significantly transformed her worldview and self-perception, positioning her body at the center of her artistic expression. Through her work, she examines and reinterprets traditional notions of the female form and human diversity, utilizing portraiture, sculpture, and tapestries. She employs a variety of tools, including punch needles, tufting guns, and upcycled materials, and is currently exploring the use of non-recyclable plastics in her abstract sculptures.
Now she is based in her private studio at Burrinja Cultural Centre, in Melbourne, Upwey. You can find her at her studio during opening hours or by appointment.
